Karen Halo LEED AP began her green career by working in a health food store in college. She liked the simplicity and effectiveness of essential oils for a variety of remedies. Often experimenting with different herbal combinations, Halo tested her products on family, friends and pets.
Some years later, she was overcome by fumes from carpet and paint, while doing a home improvement project. In the Emergency Room, she vowed this should not happen to anyone else.
Karen was shocked to learn the toxicity and lack of regulation for household, personal and commercial products. This lead her on a mission, to learn what was in these products and share this knowledge with others.
With a background in architecture, building (she built an Extreme Home Makeover Edition house for ABC) and medicine, she began her Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design education with the United States Green Building Council. Becoming a specialist (LEED) in Indoor Air Quality, Water Conservation, Energy Use, Recycling and Sustainable Construction Materials, Karen set out to make unhealthy buildings..healthy.
Currently on the Speakers and Exhibits Board for the USGBC-NJ and a Board Member of (ULI) Urban Land Institute-NJ, Halo is a passionate speaker and advisor for corporations and consumers. On Days off , Karen can be found outdoors and frequently behind a golf club :)
